Dr. Oguni, DVM
Dr. Justin Oguni has been practicing veterinary medicine in the metro Atlanta area since 2011 and has been involved with veterinary medicine even longer. He was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1994 at the age of 10. While growing up in California, his parents exposed him to many books about animals and frequently took him to the Los Angeles Zoo. These childhood experiences helped spark his love for animals and his love for animals has grown ever since. Not too long after moving to Georgia at the age of 13, he started observing veterinary procedures at a local veterinary hospital where his interest in veterinary medicine began and grew.
During his high school and college years, he volunteered for and worked at different veterinary hospitals to build on a variety of veterinary experiences before pursuing veterinary school. He graduated from Walton High School in Marietta, GA in 2001, received a bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Georgia in 2005, and graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. Oguni has a passion for practicing dog and cat medicine, but has an equal passion for practicing reptile and small mammal medicine. He believes every pet is an important family member and strives to provide the best care for his patients and their families. He also knows that each patient is unique and will always try to find the best options to provide the best quality of life possible for each individual patient.
Dr. Oguni is an active member of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), an associate editor for the Journal of Herpetological Medicine and Surgery, and a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. He has also contributed to publications in herpetological and veterinary journals.
Outside of work, Dr. Oguni enjoys wildlife photography, herping (looking for reptiles and amphibians), birding, hiking, and activities that allow him to enjoy being outdoors in nature. He is an avid sports fan and roots for all the Georgia sports teams, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. He is very close with his family and he does his best to treat his patients like he would his own family members.
